The building of Tarnów’s theatre used to belong to Polish Gymnasts Society “Sokół”. The edifice from 1895 at Mickiewicz street was used by local sport sections.

It had a large gymnasts room, in which soon after opening New Years Eve balls, Christmas and patriotic meetings were organised. Soon to “Sokół” theatre troops started coming to depict a play, a tradition still alive today in smaller rooms. At the end of the XIX century, Tarnów became such a well know theatre centre that artists from Kraków, Lviv and Poznań started their regular appearance, of staying for longer periods of time to perform several plays.
The Drama Theatre started being in use in 1945. Since then the building went through several modernisations and today’s look was the final result of works in 2011.
Tarnów’s Ludwik Solski Theatre holds performances of both modern and classical dramas. An interesting event happening there is Annual Polish Comedy Festival Talia, thanks to which you can see in Tarnów the best plays and most famous actors.
